Boxer Sugar Ray Robinson, a 3-to-1 favourite, trained in the shadow of Windsor Castle.
A strange thing happened the day prior to the bout: a young girl named Christine Butcher, aged only seven years, went missing while venturing off to visit Robinson at his camp only 30 metres away, kicking off a feverish police search.
En route to the weigh-in on Windmill Street in London, the streets were so choked with people that Robinson’s Cadillac was literally pushing its way through the crowd. Traffic was stopped in all directions at Piccadilly Circus, with reports stating it was the biggest crowd of people to take to the streets of London since V Day — the day when the Allied powers celebrated victory over the Axis powers six years earlier. Robinson was a half-hour late to the weigh-in because of the traffic.
An A.P. report out of Windsor read: “Christine had a doll that she imagined looked like Sugar Ray. She set off yesterday to show the doll to the champion. No one has reported seeing her since.” It was little more than an afterthought among the more pressing news, like how much heavier than the champion Turpin would scale, but it would later become haunting.
As the two men were toiling inside the ring, an investigation was underway;
The body of young Christine Butcher had been found not far from Windsor and “a white man in a grey suit” was sought for questioning. Her murder kicked off six weeks of similar crimes.
She was murdered on Sunday 8th July 1951 and found on 10th July.

It’s interesting that Christine was on her way to meet Sugar Ray Robinson:
Robinson was a high-ranking mason, and was for a time in a relationship (some sites say married) to Mary Ann Degrimston, co-founder of the (CIA-linked) satanic Process Church, which famously interviewed Savile for the “Sex” issue of their magazine.
Degrimston later worked as an escort in London and may have been involved with the Profumo scandal.

The Festival of Britain floats on their way to Stephen’s Field...In September 1951 at the time of the procession everyone in Windsor knew where it was because just two months earlier, on 10th July, the body of 7-year old Christine Butcher was found there. The papers were full of it. The crime was never solved.
The Windsor Forest Bowmen (Patron Prince Philip) give their location as St Stephen’s Field, Home Park.
They say that it is at the far end of Romney Lock Road, past the rugby club and cricket club, next to some very large trees.

Jimmy Savile was desperate to take part in the first Tour of Britain, organised as part of the Festival of Britain celebrations and sponsored by the Daily Express . A race of twelve stages covering 1,403 miles over 14 days, it would take riders from London to Brighton, along the south coast and into the West Country, up into Wales, the north-west and the Lake District, before arriving at its most northerly stop in Glasgow. From there, it would head back south to Newcastle, on down the eastern side of England and finish in London. The prize fund totalled a princely £1,000.
A place in the four-man team representing Yorkshire could only be secured with a strong performance in one of the major stage races leading up to the Tour. The inaugural Butlins Holiday Camps 7-Day race, which saw competitors racing between camps in the north, was significant not only because it was where Jimmy Savile earned his ride in the Tour of Britain but also as the moment he chose to unleash his brand of jack-the-lad showmanship on an unsuspecting public. ‘Even though I was nobody at the time nationally, I worked by instinct,’ is how he described it to me. ‘In the Butlins Race, he would get to the start dressed in a tuxedo,’ said Ken Russell some 60 years later. ‘And then he would arrange for somebody to come with a tray and mirror and a brushing comb.’ Doug Petty, a young bike builder, gave exactly the same account of Savile’s bizarre antics.
‘Oscar’ was invited to become a race commentator:
‘When the Daily Express stopped sponsoring the Tour of Britain, which would have been about 1954, I remember seeing him on television maybe a year or two afterwards. The BBC was showing Silverstone motor racing and who should be there but Jimmy Savile; it was sponsored by the Daily Express . I often think that’s what made him, really. I think the Daily Express really helped him, they kind of adopted him.’

Cragg Vale, St John’s in the Wilderness
Savile had ties with Calderdale. He often used to visit St John’s Church, Cragg Vale, for which he raised thousands of pounds, and was an honorary church warden. He was a popular figure in the Calder Valley right up until his death. In the 1970s he had a caravan parked outside the Hinchliffe Arms Cragg Vale. In 1967 Savile became Honorary Churchwarden of St John in the Wilderness at Cragg Vale, despite the fact he had only come to the church to help fix a job for a vicar as reported in the Halifax Courier:
“I first came down here to help the church find a vicar and soon after was appointed church warden for my efforts.”
Who had asked Savile down to find a vicar in the first place? And who appointed him Honorary Churchwarden?
In 1960 Rev. David Bennett was ordained and the following year he joined the Victory Lodge in Halifax as a freemason, going on to become one of the most decorated Freemasons in the county of Nottingham in his later career
Having been appointed as ‘Priest in Charge’ of St John the Baptist in the Wilderness in 1967 Rev. Bennett was to eventually have a 25 year long working relationship with Jimmy Savile in youth support and development.

EXTRAORDINARY MAN AND MASON ASSISTANT PGM Anthony B Brailsford was pleased to acknowledge the contribution of an extraordinary man and mason when he presented a 50-year jubilee certificate to cleric David Edward Bennett, PPGChap, at Victory Lodge No 3922 earlier this year. Initiated into Victory Lodge in 1961, he was master during the Lodge’s 50th anniversary in 1969.
After moving to Nottinghamshire with his wife, Margaret, he became master of Nottinghamshire Installed Masters and was appointed Provincial Grand Chaplain, a position he held for 31 years. In Royal Arch Masonry he is a past first principal and a grand officer in Mark, Royal Ark Mariners, Red Cross of Constantine, Knights Templar (including Malta Grand Rank) and the Allied Masonic Degrees.
David was born and raised in London and after being awarded an MA at Cambridge he carried out his National Service where he was a Sergeant in the Royal Army Service Corps. After National Service he studied at Wells Theological College and was ordained in Wakefield Cathedral. He completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at London University and was awarded a Diploma in Youth work by Leicester University. His working life was a fusion of service to the church and education. He was curate of Lightcliffe Parish Church and of Halifax Parish Church, as well as Priest in Charge of St John the Baptist in the Wilderness, Cragg Vale
He also taught at two primary schools and a secondary school, was a youth officer for West Riding County Council and advisory teacher for schools of all ages, covering the north of England. It was at this time that he started a 25-year working relationship with Sir Jimmy Savile in youth support and development.
David became an Educational Inspector for Nottinghamshire County Council, where he worked for 23 years looking after 650 schools for pupils of all ages. He was invited to be Priest in Charge of Holme Pierrepont, the National Water-sports Centre, a position he held for 29 years,working mainly in the evenings and at weekends. In 1988 he was Chaplain to the Lord Mayor of Nottingham. This has been a third successive year of commemoration for him. In 2009 he celebrated his golden wedding anniversary, 2010 was the 50th anniversary of his ordination and 2011 marks his 50th year in Freemasonry. The meeting was followed by a traditional festive board where W Bro Bennett talked further of his distinguished Masonic career.

The Rev James Allison said he had attended a service there as recently as six months ago and would talk proudly of his honourary role.
“He never announced he was coming, I would just look up and there he’d be in all his glory, usually wearing a shellsuit and everything,” he said.
“He was lovely – a really nice man. We are very sad to have lost him. He was a good friend of the church.”

On one occasion Savile sent Johnnie away with Eager on a foreign trip with underprivileged children from a home in Manchester. Eager said Johnnie Savile turned up at the airport wearing a T-shirt with ‘I’m Jimmy Savile’s brother’ emblazoned on the front. They went to Mamaia in Romania. Although Eager claimed not to remember when the trip took place or the name of the Manchester children’s home, he did recall that the home was subsequently embroiled in a scandal.
In 2014, the Department of Education announced it was launching an inquiry into Jimmy Savile’s activities at schools and children’s homes.
Among the institutions listed was Broome House in Manchester. Ronald Hall, a former warden of Broome House, was Assistant Director of Manchester Social Services when he was arrested by Manchester detectives in 2001. He was jailed for 11 years for 21 counts of sexual and physical abuse. His deputy at Broome House, Ian Gray, was given a 14-year sentence for serious sexual offences. Soon after Education Secretary Michael Gove commissioned the inquiry, a former resident at Broome House told the Manchester Evening News 4 how Ronald Hall had driven him from the home and delivered him to Jimmy Savile at Piccadilly Station. He said Savile plied him with alcohol and he woke up on the floor of his flat in Salford. He also stated that Savile visited Broome House on a number of further occasions.

Visits outside Broadmoor hospital and the other special hospitals are an important element in patient rehabilitation programmes. The visit to Windsor to which my hon. Friend refers took place in July 1984 without any complaint from anyone at the time. Decisions on patient outings or other visits are matters for the clinical judgment of responsible medical officers. Patients taking part in group outings are escorted continuously by nurses from the hospitals. I am quite satisfied that there is no unacceptable degree of risk to the public from such visits.

Roman Polanski ‘should not receive special treatment in child sex case’, judge hears
Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski should return to the US to be sentenced for child sexual abuse and not receive special treatment as a “wealthy celebrity”, prosecutors have said.
A judge in Los Angeles is considering whether the long-running case involving the French-Polish film-maker – who has spent nearly 40 years on the run – should be drawn to a close.
Polanski, now 83, pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl at actor Jack Nicholson’s house but fled the US on the eve of sentencing in 1978.
Lawyers for the director say he is willing to return to America from France if he is assured he will not serve more jail time.
But prosecutor Michele Hanisee told a court hearing on Monday that Polanski was asking for “special treatment” and for the court to “completely abandon legal principles”.
“The People simply do not believe it is in the best interests of justice to give a wealthy celebrity – and that’s what Mr Polanski is – different treatment than any other fugitive from justice,” she said.
“If Mr Polanski returns, the People are confident he will get a fair hearing here in this court.”
Polanski’s lawyer Harland Braun said his client’s crime was “indefensible” but he fled at the time because he was “lied to” by the court about the sentence he would receive.
“This is a very unique case,” Mr Braun said.
“He is an 83-year-old man with a 40-year-old case that he wants to wrap up.”
Mr Braun told the court that the sentence at the time of Polanski’s offence was a maximum of two years in prison with 50% credit – meaning he would have spent 12 months in custody “at most”.
Polanski had already served 10-and-a-half months in custody in the US and Switzerland, he added.
Polanski fled the US after spending 42 days in an American jail when he feared a now-deceased judge would extend his sentence.
“He knows what he was promised,” Mr Braun said.
“We know he has served eight times what he was promised.”
The lawyer told the court the victim in the case said she wants “this thing over with”. He also called for a warrant issued for Polanski’s arrest to be dropped.
After hearing arguments from both lawyers, Judge Scott Gordon said he would issue a written ruling at a later date.

Jimmy Savile told hospital staff he interfered with patients’ corpses, taking grotesque photographs and stealing glass eyes for jewellery, over two decades at the mortuary of Leeds general infirmary.
The late Top of the Pops presenter had free access to the mortuary from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, an official investigation has found, concluding that Savile’s interest in the deceased was “not within accepted boundaries“.
Savile was said to have been best friends with the chief mortician of Leeds general infirmary, who is now dead, and had regular unsupervised access to the mortuary from the late 70s until the mid-90s.

Indeed, the Palace has never offered a public explanation for Andrew’s most controversial meeting with Epstein, which occurred in New York in 2011. That was two years after Epstein had been released from prison. He was, by then, a registered sex offender, and though some celebrities were still willing to be seen with him, he’d been abandoned by many of the more influential figures he previously called his friends.

Did you know the royals are more secretive than the CIA or MI5? That’s according to historians who have tried to uncover secrets held in the royal archives.
Millions of official papers, including letters to and from prime ministers and international figures, are locked away in Windsor Castle. Why? Because they’re documents held by the royal family, and instead of being transferred to the National Archive they have been retained by the royals and put in the Royal Archive.
That means the official record of Britain’s head of state – evidence of exactly what’s been going on behind closed doors for decades – is kept a closely guarded secret.
Hidden past
The Royal Archive, created in 1914, is treated by the royals as private and personal. Unlike the National Archive in Kew it is not subject to official regulations that allow widespread disclosure. Yet these are the official records of Britain’s head of state.
There is no systematic releasing of letters and documents under the 30 year rule, no access under Freedom of Information laws – there isn’t even a publicly accessible catalogue of the material the archive holds. None of the standards and rules applied to government documents are applied to the records of the Queen, her predecessors or her family. The history of the monarchy is hidden away from public gaze.
Not just hidden, but often destroyed. So determined the royals are to hide their secrets the King sent a courtier to Germany in 1945 to retrieve letters from the archives of relatives there. Credible reports suggest that the royals have since destroyed thousands of documents from the 1930s and 40s.

Smith had been investigated by Lancashire police at least four times by then, going back to the Sixties. The investigations were all halted.

Youngsters from two to 13 were drugged, tortured and sexually abused during the satanic “ceremonies”.
He was jailed for 10 years and placed on the sex offenders’ register after he was found guilty of six sex abuse charges in 1992
The shock revelation over the satanist and MP’s friendship raises questions over any role Smith and Jimmy Savile may have played in Horgan’s paedo ring.
Horgan was also pals with Raymond Hewlett, the child rapist questioned in relation to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
